The Bede & Oswald Rooms
The Bede room is accessible to disabled guests, with level access from the car park through to the bathroom, which incorporates a ‘wetroom’ with shower, and also to the dining room.
All items of furniture in the bedrooms are solid wood construction, hand- built with timber from sustainable forests.
The old stone walls at ground-floor level were very rough and wonky. Although the external walls have been insulated, using that wooden framework to carry the thick insulation, (and thereby straightened up) the new wooden traditional sash windows in these two bedrooms look like they’ve always been there. The new coving around the ceiling (an exact match to the original) restores the traditional finish.
We had to find a way to handle drainage, fan extraction, electrical installation and a plumbing system which needed to meet several criteria - including things like not being visible externally (so no new downpipes), not being audible inside when the next room flushes the loo, and getting fan extraction out through the roof from these downstairs bedrooms. Not easy - but all achieved.
Before we go upstairs, let's go into The Kitchen
