We discovered something very special many years ago, when we encountered the stories and experiences of the first men and women of faith who lived here in Northumberland, in the sixth and seventh centuries. Their stories made sense of our own ‘struggling after faith’, and learning of them has enabled us to find a Christian spirituality which makes sense in this modern world.
We’d love to share something of the history, the stories, and the places with you during this themed stay. We’ll plan our days around an ancient ‘monastic’ rhythm, which includes time to be active and busy, but also time to be still, to reflect, or simply relax. There's plenty of time for coffee shops and retail therapy too!
We’ll visit some of the key places, together as a group, with knowledgeable guides, hearing and learning about the stories in creative ways.
We’ll visit some of the ancient sites – Melrose Abbey, Holy Island and its Priory, Bamburgh Castle and St. Aidan’s church, Cuthbert’s cave, and the Farne Islands… and we’ll have time to experience the beauty and significance of the events, and of the places themselves, for us.
Back in St Cuthbert’s House, we’ll enjoy a sumptuous feast each evening, and then hear a visiting speaker on our theme, using talks, slide shows and music.
