Aidan, carrying 'the torch of the gospel'Here is an opportunity to join Roy Searle, and other leaders of the Northumbria Community, to explore Northumbria - its spirituality and its places. Roy is one of the founders and leaders of the Northumbria Community, an accredited Baptist Minister, and a former President of the Baptist Union.

Our time together will be based loosely around a modern monastic rhythm, sharing the Northumbria Community Offices each day - with time to study, engage and learn with others and to visit and enjoy some ancient sites and places. We'll learn from the stories of the first men and women of God who brought the gospel to Northumbria, and we'll engage with those stories as we hear them shared in words, music, and images - and as we visit the places involved.

There will also be free time to visit other amazing attractions, like Alnwick Castle and the Garden, or historic Berwick-upon-Tweed. The Northumberland coastline is peppered with beautiful sandy beaches and ancient castles, houses and gardens, and there will be time to explore some of those too.

We’ll visit some of the key places, together as a group, with knowledgeable guides, hearing and learning about the stories in creative ways.

The Priory on LindisfarneWe’ll visit some of the ancient sites – Holy Island and its Priory, Bamburgh Castle and St. Aidan’s church, Cuthbert’s cave, and the Farne Islands… and we’ll have time to experience the beauty and significance of the events, and of the places themselves, for us.

Dining table in the Cuthbert RoomBack in St Cuthbert’s House, we’ll enjoy a sumptuous feast each evening, and then perhaps hear a visiting speaker on our theme, using talks, slide shows and music.
