Check Availability, Book Online

If you want to check availability and make a reservation immediately, you can use the Availability Search box below, which will link you to our online booking engine.  Or you can call us on 01665 720456.

The dates in green show dates when we have some availability. But if the booking system does not allow you to book dates you want even though they are green, it may be because all availability may not be in the same room. The booking system cannot cope with such a scenario!  If you experience any problems at all, then please call us - we are more communicative and intelligent than the computer, and can often solve the problem.

Between Easter and the end of September we are usually only able to make a booking for two or more nights, unless you are arriving on foot or by bicycle. But we do occasionally have a one-night space, and we're pleased to fill them - so if you need just one night, do please give us a call to check availability, because single-night availability may not be shown online.

It will always - without exception - be better for you (and us!) to book direct with us, via our own website - start by searching for dates down below - or by phone. Please be aware that you could well pay more if booking via certain 'agency' sites, because they charge hefty commissions.  Spread the word...

We want to make you aware that a small building project is underway in the field adjacent to St Cuthbert’s House.  We don’t expect it to disturb your stay, but we think it only fair to point out that the planning conditions permit work to be carried out between 8.00am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, and until 1pm on Saturday. The Developer seems to be a reasonable man, and understands that you do not want your short break spoiled by the activities of a noisy building site!  So we remain confident that you won’t be unduly disturbed.  If you have any questions or concerns about this prior to making your booking, then please do not hesitate to call us, so that we can chat with you about them.

Bookings are subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Below is a summary of our cancellation policy - which is terribly unimportant unless something unforeseen befalls you. We recommend You consider insuring against the possibility of of incurring cancellation charges.

We are a small business, so cancellations can have a big impact on us, especially if we have turned away potential guests in favour of someone who has already booked and who then cancels. We do, however, appreciate that unforeseen circumstances can intervene, and we try to be as sympathetic and helpful as possible in such cases.

If you cancel more than two weeks before your intended check-in date, then your booking deposit will be retained. (Your booking deposit is nominally 'non-refundable' but we will always do our best to accommodate your needs should they change, and if we can re-let your room and give it back to you, then we will - minus a modest admin charge. We have no desire or intention to 'profit' from your cancellation.)

If you cancel at any time within two weeks of your intended check-in date, then we will do our very best to re-let your room. If we are unable to do so, you will be required to pay for any nights which have not been re-let.

If You fail to arrive at St Cuthbert's House to take up Your booked accommodation ('no-show') then you will remain liable for the total cost of Your booking.

We hope you’ll consider this fair, for everyone.

  • St Cuthbert's House went instantly to the top of my 'best-ever B&B's' list. I would describe it as a luxury small hotel with a family feel, but that might not fit on the signs!

Clare Balding, in her book 'Walking Home'

  • Really understates St Cuthbert's House to call it a 'B&B'.  The rooms, breakfast and overall effect knocks many a boutique hotel for six.  We will definitely be back.
    Richard & Karen, July 7 2016

  • There may be other B&Bs with equally comfortable rooms, with good breakfasts, and with interesting architecture - but there are unlikely to be many other B&Bs where the personal service and attention to detail is so expertly, warmly and sincerely given.  And that is what makes the difference here; that total dedication to quality, which is really about dealing with people in the best possible way.
    Richard & Margaret June 2 2015

  • Truly, we could not fault St Cuthbert's House - not that we came looking for faults! You have made it a real gem, thank you for a lovely stay.
    Julie & Andy, Oct 6 2017 (formerly B&B owners!)

  • This place is a cut above in every respect. The rooms, the breakfasts, the atmosphere are all well above expectations. Couple this with first class hosts and you have a set-up made ìn heaven. Do yourself a favour and book a stay.
    Stan Oct 2 2017

  • This is our fourth visit - and it just gets better and better.
    Peter & Kathy, Sept 30 2017

  • Our next visit will be based around how many of the amazing breakfasts we can try!
    Rob & Ruth, Sept 27 2017

  • Simply outstanding. The perfect retreat for the perfect break. Breakfast - WOW!
    Colin & Claire, Sept 19 2018

  • What a gem of a place, thank you for making our stay so special. And - oh! - those mushrooms!
    Rupert & Liz, Sept 18 2017

  • Everyone says how splendid it is at St Cuthbert's House.  And do you  know - they're right.
    Stan & Pauline, Sept 18 2017

  • Thanks... for one of the world's all-time great breakfasts!
    Nick & Naz, Sept 15 2017

  • St Cuthbert's House and all its facilities are faultless, but you yourselves have made our visit very special - from the lovely welcome, to all the personal touches.  We'll be back.

    Richard & Anne, September 8 2017

  • We're VisitEngland's 'Best B&B in England' for 2017!

    We're VisitEngland's 'Best B&B in England' for 2017!

We were delighted to be shortlisted again, amongst the top 3 finalists from around the whole country, when we went to the VisitEngland 'Awards for Excellence 2017' ceremony at the Waldorf Hotel last week.

But then we were absolutely thrilled to be awarded the top spot - the Gold Award, making us VisitEngland's 'Best B&B in England 2017' -  as we were in 2014 too.  To win this prestigious and highly-prized accolade a second time is very special indeed.

  • Saturday October 21 - Blue Rose Code

Saturday October 21 - Blue Rose Code

The music of Ross Wilson defies categorisation - but is always beautifully captivating, and often intensely moving in its searing honesty. The band’s gig here in April of 2016 was a very special occasion, and we’re so pleased to have them back.

In the space of only a short few years Blue Rose Code, Edinburgh-born Ross Wilson, has gone from song-writing in the obscurity of an East London flat to being celebrated by the industry and fans alike.

'The Ballads Of Peckham Rye', Blue Rose Code’s second record, was nominated for the prestigious Scottish Album Of The Year Awards in 2014.  'Grateful', the first single from the more recent 'And Lo the Bird is On the Wing' was released at the end of 2015 and was playlisted on BBC Radio Scotland for a full five weeks. Truly remarkable for an act without the backing of a label or a heavy management deal.

Further praise has come from the most unexpected of quarters - Hollywood A-lister Ewan McGregor said of The Ballads Of Peckham Rye: "It’s beautiful and I can’t stop listening to it.”

  • Clare votes us her No 1!

Clare votes us her No 1!

We've been enjoying reading Clare Balding's new book recently. She stayed with us here at St Cuthbert's House a while ago, but we were really taken aback when folks began to call to tell us that she mentions her stay at St Cuthbert's House in the book! Here's what she says, on page 201:
'St Cuthbert's House went instantly to the top of my 'best ever B&Bs' list. I would describe it as a luxury small hotel with a family feel, but that might not fit on the signs.' Aw, thanks Clare!

Want to see what's so special about Northumberland?

Some time ago, we began work with our local Tourism Association to produce a video showing some of the things which make this area so very special.  Now the video is complete, and we are deeply grateful to the remarkable young film-maker Cain Scrimgeour for working patiently with us across the seasons, to create something very, very beautiful. This is 7 minutes long, and we urge you to settle back and watch...

Peter & Kathy told us that they'd really enjoyed their first stay at SCH, and so we asked them to tell you why...

Reassure yourself - watch their one-minute video..

  • The Good Hotel Guide - we're listed

The Good Hotel Guide - we're listed

We're in the Good Hotel Guide!

We are delighted once again to be included in the 2017 edition of the Good Hotel Guide, after being chosen as 'Editor's Choice' in the 'Sustainable Tourism' section of the Good Hotel Guide in the 2016 printed edition.

The Good Hotel Guide is fiercely independent. A hotel cannot simply pay for an entry into the Guide - inclusion is by invitation only, and is rigorously monitored by a network of 'inspectors' who constantly report back on standards of service. To be included at all is great honour for us - but it's also a great recommendation for you - especially as the Editor considers us amongst his 'choices'!

We have just six rooms, and sometimes it's simply impossible to accommodate every combination of room and date requests. However, we'll always confirm it for you if you have a specific need (eg for a ground-floor room), and we'll always ensure you get the bed configuration you require!"
