Making a Song & Dance
There's a decent amount of live music and theatre available around here, considering we're miles from anywhere. But of course none of them beats 'a night in' at one of our House-concerts
Here's some inspiration for you, if you fancy a night out whilst you're here.
Our local theatre is the Alnwick Playhouse, and its about 15 miles and 25 minutes away. Their diary of events is here. It's a small, independent and beautful little place, and we've signed us as Friends. We need to keep places like this going in the rural area, so if there's something on you'd like to buy a ticket for, that'll help!
A little further away, in the opposite direction is Berwick's Maltings Theatre. Their diary is here. Again, it's a small facility working hard to provide much-valued arts events for a rural population, but often they're able to punch above their weight, so we get some good stuff!
If (like us) you're into music, then there's a fantastic live music venue in Rothbury - which is a bit of a hike for a night out, but we'll take it whenever we can. The schedule is available on the Rothbury Roots website.
Several local pubs have music sessions or bands playing regularly, including these:
The Tanners Arms Alnwick 01665 602553
Acoustic session, first Thursday monthly
Traditional folk-singing, fifth Monday monthly
Open mic night, last Friday monthly
LUSh acoustic, third saturday monthly
Barrels Ale House, Berwick 01289 308013
Gigs regularly on Fridays
Traditional folk music sessions are held every Monday, rotating around five venues:
Blue Bell Belford 01668 214543
Fishers Arms Horncliffe 01289 386866
The Railway Inn Acklington 01670 760320
The Ship Inn Low Newton 0165 722835
The Tanners Arms Alnwick
The Fleece Inn Alnwick 01665 603036 also host traditional folk music sessions
LUSh acoustic play regularly at the Tanners Arms in Alnwick
Although its rather a long shank, its perfectly possible to go for a muckle night out in Newcastle - we do it often! Being a trendy city, it has all manner of music and theatre on offer, including the famous Theatre Royal, and of course the North's premier music venue - whatever your musical taste - is the Sage Gateshead.
