The Oswald room is one of our two ground floor bedrooms, giving very easy level access from the car park.  (However, if you have any mobility issues and choose Oswald for this reason, please note that the ensuite bathroom has a beautiful bath with shower over - so you need to be able to negotiate that!)  The sunlight streams in during the late afternoon and evening, bringing the classic, subtle colours to life.

It has the same excellent facilities offered in each of our rooms: kettle and extensive choice of drinks, LCD TV, DVD, CD/DAB radio, Nespresso machine with a supply of Grand Crus coffee, salon-quality hairdryer, and a beautifully comfortable posture-sprung bed - which can be set up as either 6'SuperKing-size or 3' Twin configuration. The room has beautiful, hand-made solid wooden furniture, offering lots of storage space, with a plentiful supply of heavy woden hangers in the wardrobe.

The bed is made up with elegant and luxurious crisp Egyptian Cotton sheets and gorgeous pillows and duvets, and there are fluffy white towels, dressing gowns and slippers too.

Oswald (like all rooms) has gorgeous, heavy full-length blackout curtains and pelmet, to aid a really good night’s sleep.

The luxurious ensuite bathroom has a bath, with an enlarged shower-cubicle area at one end, and there is a supply of indulgent Gilchrist & Soames' toiletries for you too.

All of our rooms offer free internet access, via wifi or network ports.

Guest Comments

  • St Cuthbert's House went instantly to the top of my 'best-ever B&B's' list. I would describe it as a luxury small hotel with a family feel, but that might not fit on the signs!

Clare Balding, in her book 'Walking Home'

  • Really understates St Cuthbert's House to call it a 'B&B'.  The rooms, breakfast and overall effect knocks many a boutique hotel for six.  We will definitely be back.
    Richard & Karen, July 7 2016

  • There may be other B&Bs with equally comfortable rooms, with good breakfasts, and with interesting architecture - but there are unlikely to be many other B&Bs where the personal service and attention to detail is so expertly, warmly and sincerely given.  And that is what makes the difference here; that total dedication to quality, which is really about dealing with people in the best possible way.
    Richard & Margaret June 2 2015

  • Truly, we could not fault St Cuthbert's House - not that we came looking for faults! You have made it a real gem, thank you for a lovely stay.
    Julie & Andy, Oct 6 2017 (formerly B&B owners!)

  • This place is a cut above in every respect. The rooms, the breakfasts, the atmosphere are all well above expectations. Couple this with first class hosts and you have a set-up made ìn heaven. Do yourself a favour and book a stay.
    Stan Oct 2 2017

  • This is our fourth visit - and it just gets better and better.
    Peter & Kathy, Sept 30 2017

  • Our next visit will be based around how many of the amazing breakfasts we can try!
    Rob & Ruth, Sept 27 2017

  • Simply outstanding. The perfect retreat for the perfect break. Breakfast - WOW!
    Colin & Claire, Sept 19 2018

  • What a gem of a place, thank you for making our stay so special. And - oh! - those mushrooms!
    Rupert & Liz, Sept 18 2017

  • Everyone says how splendid it is at St Cuthbert's House.  And do you  know - they're right.
    Stan & Pauline, Sept 18 2017

  • Thanks... for one of the world's all-time great breakfasts!
    Nick & Naz, Sept 15 2017

  • St Cuthbert's House and all its facilities are faultless, but you yourselves have made our visit very special - from the lovely welcome, to all the personal touches.  We'll be back.

Sleep well...

OswaldBed400We think you won't ever have slept in a bigger or more comfortable bed, than the one that's waiting for you at St Cuthbert's House. See why here.

"We promise to do our very best to accommodate your request for a particular room if you have a preference, but we can't absolutely guarantee you a specific room. We have just six rooms, and sometimes it's simply impossible to accommodate every combination of room and date requests. However, we'll always confirm it for you if you have a specific need (eg for a ground-floor room), and we'll always ensure you get the bed configuration you require!"
